Programs

1
Creative Writing and the Jewish Text
A generative creative writing workshop through the lens of Jewish poems, prayers, and other texts. We aim to write poetry and prose, while reaching into ourselves more deeply.
2
Creative Writing Through Midrash
A generative creative writing workshop through the lens of Midrash - writing one's own stories, inspired by Biblical figures and fables, like Eve, Job, and Lot's wife.
3
Poetry as Tikkun
A talk about how poetry (both Jewish and beyond) can be a means of "tikkun" - a space of healing, compassion, and empathy, within ourselves and for others.
4
Hebrew-Language Poetry in English Translation
A talk about Hebrew-language poets in English translation, such as Yehuda Amichai, Leah Goldberg, Amos Oz, and Tuvia Ruebner. We explore what these poets illuminate about the Israeli experience, as well as the human one.
5
Mothers of the Bible: A Discussion and Writing Workshop
This program begins with a conversation about mothers of the Bible, such as Eve, Sarah, and Hagar, followed by a creative writing workshop. Our goal is to write about one's experience of motherhood, through exploring these extraordinary figures.

Booking Our Speakers

Weekday/Sunday programs are approximately one hour. Shabbat Scholar-in-Residence usually includes two talks, sometimes three.

Usually: The event price includes honorarium and all expenses, including international and domestic airfare and local expenses. We ask venues to provide home-hospitality for one night (for weekday/Sunday programs), or two nights (for Shabbat programs), or for multi-day programs, one night for each day of the event. If your venue is unable to provide home hospitality, an additional charge of $150 per night will be assessed to cover speaker expenses.

Need a special program for Shavuot, Holocaust Remembrence Day, or July 4th? We have suggestions.
