Programs

1
Four Challenges to the Future of the Jewish People
This is an analysis of the most important contemporary challenges facing Jews across the globe today. The background and development of each challenge is presented followed by suggestions for potential responses. Contemporary issues of nationalism, gender, identity and personal ethics are taken into consideration.
2
Seven Levels of Laziness
Why does staying in bed feel better than getting up? This class delves into a 1500-year-old midrashic text in which King Solomon identifies seven variants of the lazy personality. The levels reflect our tainted desire for a life of fulfilment. The study will touch upon the writings of C.S. Lewis and Margaret Mahy.
3
Are our rabbis good enough?
Some say there are no 'gedolim' (great rabbis) anymore and that no-one is respected or brave enough to have a dramatic impact on the Jewish People. Everyone just 'plays safe'. Did the Sages of the Talmud think any different? This is a study of their vision for rabbis who would live millennia after they had died. There is no going back…
4
From Skyfall to Spectre: A serious Jewish reading of James Bond
Director Sam Mendes’s 007 is more personal than all previous Bonds: we have an origin story, identity crises and a plethora of biblical imagery. From the Jew who inspired Fleming’s Bond to the latest movie in the franchise, this presentation uncovers the disturbing Jewish themes of the spy of spies.
Genres
