Miri Shalem is an Orthodox Sephardic activist from Bet Shemesh, Israel. She is the CEO of the Institute for Zionist Strategies which deals in shaping Israel as the state of the Jewish People, promoting liberal values. She writes an editorial in the weekly paper, Makor Rishon. She has a BA in Economics and Political Science and an MA in Gender Studies. She is married and a mother of 4.

Lecture about Religious Feminist acricivsm in Israel
Miri Shalem will tell you her personal story as a religious feminist activist in Israel. Her story is entwined with the story of the city she lives in: Bet Shemesh and includes references to depth concepts like: Public Sphere, Minority and Majority, religion and state and so on. Miri will speak about the lawsuits she is involved in and about how she uses dance to create a change.

Why the Israeli right should deal with Human rights
Baasd on her depth article, Miri will give an extensive review of the political Right in Israel vis-a-vis Human Rights. The lecture was published in the "Hauma" periodical and is based on a lecture given by Miri at a seminar held on September by the Kfar Etzion Field School and Blue&White Human Rights.

This lecture talks about my life as a traditional Sepharadic Jew, Why do I think that the Sepharadic Jews could have cdreated a bridge to the American Jewry from one hamd and to the palestinians from the other hand. Why is this bridge won't really happen.

Miri Shalem led a tour of Beit Shemesh for a group of twenty New Israel Fund donors from the United States, Australia and Brazil. Participants found the tour significant, interesting and informative in that it shed light on the conflicts of veteran residents of Beit Shemesh with the ultra-Orthodox population.The participants cited the tour as one of the most meaningful sessions of the week.

Booking Our Speakers

Weekday/Sunday programs are approximately one hour. Shabbat Scholar-in-Residence usually includes two talks, sometimes three.

Usually: The event price includes honorarium and all expenses, including international and domestic airfare and local expenses. We ask venues to provide home-hospitality for one night (for weekday/Sunday programs), or two nights (for Shabbat programs), or for multi-day programs, one night for each day of the event. If your venue is unable to provide home hospitality, an additional charge of $150 per night will be assessed to cover speaker expenses.
