About

Steven L Herman is VOA's chief national correspondent and its White House bureau chief during the Trump administration and the start of the Biden presidency. In his new book, "Behind the White House Curtain," he offers insight not only into covering U.S. presidents and what it's like to travel on Air Force One, but historical context about the relationship between the press and presidents.

Jewish Asia
A longtime foreign correspondent in Asia, Steve Herman experienced firsthand the region's rich Jewish history, praying with both ancient communities and congregations established in modern times in Japan, Korea, India & Thailand. Steve also discusses his friendship with the Indian Jewish war hero general who won a Muslim country its freedom and finding a Rosh Hashanah service in Afghanistan.

His new book also details how tension between the press and presidents goes back to George Washington's second term.
