Programs

1
The Importance of Community: What You Need to Know in order to Survive Trying Times
Learn how you and your community can thrive in times of chaos and confusion. The speaker will present the seven steps you need to transform chaos into a calling. Learn how to create and participate in a community that is vital and vibrant and resilient. Disappointment and pain can be employed as engines of social action. Chaos can be transformed to actions that heal ourselves and the world.
2
The Blessing of a Broken Heart
On May 8, 2001 Mandell's 13 year old son was murdered in Israel by Palestinian terrorists. She and her husband responded by building the Koby Mandell Foundation which works with bereaved Israeli families and runs Camp Koby. Mandell will share her personal story as well as the story of Israeli families who have lost loved ones to terror yet continue on with courage, determination, and faith.
3
The Road to Resilience: From Chaos to Celebration
Learn the seven steps that will allow you to transform pain into power: chaos, kindness, choice, creativity, commemoration, consecration, and celebration. The author will explain each spiritual and psychological stage. Resilience is not returning to who you were but becoming greater, expanding.
4
The Art of Giving: Kindness in Jewish Thought
A new paradigm of giving. The difference between charity and kindness and how kindness heals. Each person has to discover his or her own mission in giving. Giving can break boundaries between people and bring us closer to the divine. When we believe that God is giving to us, then we feel the need to give to others. People become agents of the divine. But understanding how to give is an art.
5
The Jewish Secrets of Happiness
Israel ranks 11th in the World Happiness Report, ahead of Great Britain and America. What’s our secret? The sages tell us: Who is rich? He or she who is happy with his or her lot. We will describe Judaism’s wisdom on finding happiness with our lot: the story of Rebbe Gam Zu; avoiding lashon ha; the first morning blessing—modeh ani; one of Rabbi Hillel’s famous maxims; Rebbe Nachman, and more.
