1
Renewing a Positive Judaism - Commandment, Connection, Community
In this session we talk about how to emphasize a positive Judaism that focuses on issues other than the political divide or arguments over Israel. How do we renew relationships to God and one another in our time? We will outline steps to rejuvenate both individual spiritual practices, and the creation of lasting and vibrant communities, while emphasizing commitment and connection.
2
Seven Takeaways from October 7
This talk offers practical suggestions for how communities worldwide can renew their Jewish and Zionist identities in the wake of October 7. The emphasis is not only how to respond to anti-Semitism, but how to rediscover a positive approach to Jewishness. How do we create sanctity from pain, and nurture a lasting and long term impact on ourselves and our families through Jewish action.
3
How Jewish Education Created Anti-Zionist Jews
Why is it that many Anti-Zionist Jews credit their Jewish education and values for their anti-Zionist stance? What messages did they receive that could lead them to attacking Israel both before and after October 7? In this session we will trace how Jewish education has inadvertently contributed to such anti-Zionism sentiment, and discuss what kinds of changes need to be made to reverse this trend.
4
The Long Road to Zion - Israel and Independence
After 2000 years, Jews reestablished sovereignty in the Land of Israel in the 20th century. In this talk, we trace the struggle for independence and focus on the ongoing moral and existential challenges that have accompanied that quest. As Israel turns 77 years old, how can Jews around the world forge a renewed relationship to the Land and the people of Israel, especialy in the wake of October 7?
5
Is Happiness Possible?: Coveting, Capitalism, and the Search for a Good Life
Our tendency in contemporary culture is to measure our well-being through a comparison with the fantasized life of others. Is happiness achievable in a society that breeds envy and a feeling of incompleteness through advertising and social media? How can spiritual teachings extricate us from the endless loop of desire and the feeling of lack? How can Jewish ethics contribute to this conversation?
