An accomplished scholar, Ariel speaks about Elie Wiesel's legacy and its implications today. Programs

1
Witness: Lessons from Elie Wiesel's Classroom
Book talk presenting the story of Ariel's long-standing relationship with Elie Wiesel, as well as lessons from Wiesel's life and legacy for today. Audience members and organizers have said, "This was the best talk we've had in 26 years of tuning this program." Talk followed by Q&A and book signing.
2
Sara Chana at the Tip of the Church Tower
Using original illustrations of a Yiddish folktale about alienation and belonging, we will explore themes of radical hospitality, otherness, and the search for home in Jewish text. Using art as an entry point to a story, and story as a bridge to sacred text, we will combine the best of the study hall with the power of art. (Screen and projector, or original artwork available.)
3
Unscripted: a Personal Prayer Workshop
Unscripted, personal prayer was the central practice of many Jewish mystics and mainstream Jewish sages. It is a place where creative expression and spirituality come together. We will learn about and experiment with this accessible and intimate prayer practice, with which we can experiment regardless of our personal theologies.
4
Introduction to Hasidism
The philosopher Martin Buber said, “No renewal of Judaism is possible that does not bear in itself the elements of Hasidism”. We will enter the fascinating world of this 18th century revolutionary movement. Its psychological acuity, wild creativity, and insistence on joy and authenticity make this mystical path deeply relevant to our lives today.
5
Jewish Spiritual Nonviolence
Based on my doctoral dissertation under Elie Wiesel, we will examine a case study on sectarian conflict between Hasidic groups in the 1830s, and the response of Rabbi Natan of Breslov to sectarian conflict and persecution. His approach reveals a pre-Gandhian spiritual nonviolence based on Jewish teachings and practices.

Ariel is gifted as a scholar, artist, humanist and leader. The blend of knowledge and natural teaching ability that he embodies is unique. Ariel's distinctive presence, combining creativity, insight and sensitivity with clarity of thought, makes him a natural teacher and leader, one who can help continue my work. A teacher wishes for nothing more than a true student, and in Ariel I have found one.
