Programs

1
Evil on Trial, from Nuremburg to Nova
The Nuremburg Trials laid the foundation for International Humanitarian Law, but these laws are no longer adequate to fight terrorism Conflict Related Sexual Violence (CRSV). Drawing on research for a book I am working on, based on Jewish and legal sources, I present new paradigms to prosecute the Hamas terrorists of October 7th and other terrorists, and the role of world Jewry.
2
The attack on the Media: Between Bias, Objectivity and Fairness
The offensive against the media by right-wing governments is an attack on free expression, an informed public and core democratic values. Yet journalism is often biased. Politicians and the public demand "objective reporting." But is objectivity possible? Is it even desirable? How can we both defend the press and simultaneously demand that it uphold its ethical commitments?
3
Universal Justice?!
Some organizations continue to remain silent about or deny the gender-based atrocities against Israeli women committed by Hamas on October 23rd. As a member of The Dinah Project (www.thedinahproject.org), I have investigated this selective morality, including the relationship to antisemitism and implications for Israeli and all women. This lecture will present the issue and what can be done.
4
Order in the Court? Israel’s Judicial Upheaval
The government is forcefully pushing widespread “judicial reforms” in almost all areas of society, including education, media, the judiciary, government, and Knesset, and religion-state relationships. What changes are being proposed? Why do so many Israelis believe they are catapulting Israel towards illiberalism and even a dictatorship. And what can the world Jewish community do?
5
The "Upheel" Battle: Nationalism, Theocracy, and Equality"
Although Israeli women participated in the War in Gaza in unprecedented numbers, in the military and throughout Israeli society, proposed legal "reforms" threaten to weaken legal protections for women, expand the authority of religious courts, and allow gender segregation in public spaces. Women's rights are being sacrificed to political expediencies and theocratic goals. What can be done?
